Flowers are a universal symbol of love. Just think about it, they are given out on Valentine’s day, anniversaries, and even first dates. That is why when planning a wedding, couples put a lot of thought into their florals. Flowers can be seen adorning everything from the venue, the ceremony site and even the bride herself.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a florist?

A: I love that things are always changing – the seasons change and all of a sudden you are presented with a whole new catalog of flowers to create with.  It keeps things fresh and interesting.

Q: Where do you get your flowers?

A: I source my flowers from an array of different local wholesalers, local flower farmers, and sometimes (often) a little roadside foraging.

Q: What is the most important thing about the florals, in your opinion?

A: That they feel authentic to the space, season, and most importantly to the client.  You don’t always need to do a lot to make a big impact, as long as you’re thoughtful in the way you utilize your materials.

Q: How do you keep the flowers fresh?

A: We produce our work very closely to the date of the event to ensure the flowers are as fresh as possible.  Working with a perishable product, especially when you favor delicate flowers, can be challenging and is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Q: When you work weddings, what is the main goal you wish to accomplish?

A: I always seek to transform a space to bring beauty into a room and create an identity for the event that is specific to the couple.  I often hear from clients afterward that their guests commented on how unique the flowers were or that they had never seen some of the types of flowers that we sourced – that kind of feedback feels like we’ve really achieved our goals.

Q: Do you use the same flowers for decor and the wedding party?

A: I always like my work to feel cohesive, so I tend to incorporate elements from the ceremony and wedding party florals into the reception spaces.  Sometimes that is just giving the guests a preview at the ceremony of what’s to come later in the evening. A well planned, and thoughtful event leads the guests through different moments as the wedding unfolds and my goal is to provide flowers that tell the couple’s story while enhancing those moments.
